The most important question is: What will happen under the pergola? Depending on the furniture and number of people, clearly different minimum areas are required.
- Cozy Lounge Corner: For a compact sofa set with a side table, 3×5 or 4×4 meters is often sufficient. This provides enough space to move without the structure feeling bulky.
- Dining Table for 4 People: Sizes from 3×5 to 4×5 meters are ideal. The table is centered, and chairs can be comfortably pushed back.
- Dining Table for 6 People: Plan for 4×6 or 3×7 meters. This leaves a passage of at least 70–80 cm around the table.
- Dining Table for 8 People plus Lounge: For a combination of a large table and an additional seating area, we recommend 4×7 or 4×8 meters.

Measuring terrace dimensions correctly
Before you decide, carefully measure your terrace in length and width – preferably at several points, as outdoor areas are rarely exactly rectangular. Keep in mind:
- All-around clearance: Allow some space on open sides so that rainwater can drain and no chair bumps into the post.
- Height and clearance: Pay attention to doors, windows, and awnings above the terrace that could intrude into the construction height.
- Ground: The posts require a load-bearing, level surface such as concrete, slabs, or a foundation.
